So you've heard the locals like their food fried? What you may not have heard but not be surprised by is that Scotland has appalling life expectancy. Things you should know:
- Chippy sauce. If you ask for sauce in Edinburgh you will get chippy sauce. It's like brown sauce mixed with vinegar and cuts through the grease nicely. If you order anything, order it with salt and sauce or you're not getting the full authentic experience.
- Supper or single?
- Supper is with chips, single is without chips. Lots of chippies have big menus, a lot of things are not worth ordering. Things to go for:
- Fish and chips
- Haggis and chips
- Fried pizza (or fried pizza crunch)
- Some places will offer it with batter and call it a crunch. I prefer it without batter.
